Associate Legal Counsel - Wholesale Markets Position Summary
The Associate Legal Counsel – Competitive Markets will work on cutting edge legal and policy issues in a rapidly evolving field under the direction of the Chief Legal Counsel. These opportunities include work focused on the ongoing management of competitive procurements to facilitate the development of utility-scale solar and wind projects, monitoring developments at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (“FERC”) and within Regional Transmission Organizations (“RTOs”) impacting renewable energy development and the IPA’s energy procurement processes, participating in regional and national committees and working groups through which policies are debated, the ongoing management of renewable energy incentive programs, energy policy and procurement, contract development, legislative review, litigation, and administrative law. The ISEA Administrative & Membership Coordinator plays a vital role in advancing our mission to accelerate the adoption of solar and energy storage across Illinois. This position supports the daily operations, communications, and educational programs of the organization, ensuring a smooth and effective experience for our members, partners, and the public.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and deeply motivated by the transition to clean energy. They thrive in a collaborative environment, are eager to learn about solar and storage policy and technology, and take pride in supporting a team that’s driving meaningful environmental and economic change.
This position will have a specialized focus on executing equity-informed strategies to increase access for communities and individuals who have been excluded from economic opportunities within the clean energy sector. The ideal candidate will combine a passion for relationship-building with a strong commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Key Responsibilities
Membership Management
Support the growth and retention of our membership community by preparing invoices, assisting with onboarding, and maintaining accurate member records.
Manage renewals, process payments, and generate membership reports as needed.
Track and update membership information, including legislative districts and organizational affiliations.
Respond to member inquiries and help connect them to relevant programs, events, and resources.
Communications & Content Management
Help tell the story of solar and storage and inspire engagement through digital communications, including email campaigns, newsletters, calls to action and social media.
Update and maintain website content to ensure timely and accurate information for members and the public.
Design digital and print materials such as graphics, flyers, and event promotions.
Coordinate cross-promotional activities with partner organizations, sponsors, and clean-energy allies.
Event Coordination
Support planning and logistics for events, including workshops, conferences, and advocacy days.
Develop event web pages, promotional materials, and registration systems.
Produce signage, name tags, and other collateral to ensure successful in-person and virtual experiences.
Assist with legislative and policy events, including participant coordination and materials preparation.
Communicate clearly with participants, partners, and speakers to ensure smooth execution.
Education & Volunteer Engagement
Assist in developing and maintaining educational materials for members, legislators, and community audiences.
Help organize educational webinars, including scheduling, tech support, and post-event follow-up.
Coordinate the annual Solar & Storage Tour, including host recruitment, materials production, and outreach to local officials and communities.
Fundraising Support
Coordinate the organization’s annual raffle, assist in additional fundraising campaigns.
Develop and distribute promotional materials and graphics for fundraising efforts.
Support the fundraising committee with logistics, communications, and event planning.
General Administrative Support
Provide technical and administrative support for webinars, meetings, and events.
Take meeting notes, track action items, and maintain organized documentation.
Follow up on outstanding payments, invoices, and sponsorships.
Assist with annual Board of Directors elections and committee coordination.
Serve as a liaison between internal groups such as the Young Professionals Council and the executive team.
Assist with one-time special projects and contribute ideas for continuous improvement.
Qualifications
A genuine passion for renewable energy, sustainability, and equitable access to clean power.
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent experience.
At least 2 years of administrative, communications, or program support experience; nonprofit or membership organization experience a plus.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and website or CRM tools (e.g., WordPress, PayPal, or MemberPress).
Familiarity with digital design and communications tools such as Canva, Mailchimp, or Constant Contact.
Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
A collaborative spirit and a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset.
Comfort with occasional evening or weekend work for events.
